{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-441.800","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 441.800","heading":"Creation of regional jail authority -- Powers of authority.","body":"(1) Two (2) or more counties may by ordinances establish a regional jail authority.\n(2) The authority shall constitute a public body corporate and politic, exercising public\nand essential governmental functions, and having all the powers necessary or\nconvenient to carry out and effectuate the purposes and provisions of this section\nand KRS 441.810, including, but not limited to, the following powers:\n(a) To sue and be sued; to have a seal and to alter the same at pleasure; to have\nperpetual succession; to make and execute contracts and other instruments\nnecessary or convenient to the exercise of the powers of the authority; and to\nmake and from time to time amend and repeal bylaws, rules and regulations to\ncarry into effect the powers and purposes of the authority;\n(b) To acquire property by lease or purchase, construct, reconstruct or renovate a\nregional jail and to provide for the operation and maintenance of the facility;\nand\n(c) To exercise the power, authority and duties of counties under this chapter and\nother provisions of the Kentucky Revised Statutes related to the operations of\njails and the incarceration of prisoners.","path":["KRS Chapter 441"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=19381","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:59:56Z","sha256":"25d33a453ee143d834f96888bc52094ff5e80319450eb75f51c8a8c44917d1b2","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-441.695","next":"us-ky/krs-441.810"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
