{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-45.142","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 45.142","heading":"Enforcement of laws -- Investigation procedure.","body":"For the purpose of enforcing the provisions of this chapter and those sections of KRS\nChapters 41, 45, and 48 relating to the state budget and financial administration, the\nsecretary of the Finance and Administration Cabinet, the Chief Justice, and the\nLegislative Research Commission, for their respective branches of government, or any\nofficer or employee designated by them, shall have free access during business hours to\nall books, reports, papers, and accounts in the office or under the care or control of  any\nbudget unit of their respective branches of government, and may administer oaths, certify\nto official acts, issue subpoenas, compel the attendance of witnesses and the production\nof testimony touching any subject properly under investigation by them, and may compel\nthe production of books, papers, and accounts. If any person fails to comply with the\norder of, or to obey a subpoena issued by them or their designated agents, or refuses to\ntestify as a witness to any matters regarding which he may be lawf ully interrogated, the\njudge having jurisdiction of the person to whom the order or subpoena was issued may,\non their application compel obedience by proceedings for contempt as in the case of\ndisobedience of a subpoena or order issued from such court or a  refusal to testify therein,\nand may adjudge such person guilty of contempt of court and punish him as provided by\nlaw in other contempt cases.","path":["KRS Chapter 45"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=22189","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:04Z","sha256":"e513717d87d611c7dc78f2b05f69b1a34d21b014c9061ebaa6c46dda3ea7ca6a","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-45.141","next":"us-ky/krs-45.149"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
