{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-45a.600","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 45A.600","heading":"Purchase of firearm by state employee -- Use of proceeds from sale.","body":"(1) (a) When an agency of Kentucky state government or a public university safety\nand security department organized pursuant to KRS 164.950 transitions from\nthe use of one (1) firearm owned by that agency to another, the agency may\nsell the firearm that is being replaced directly to an employee of the agency if:\n1. The firearm was issued to the employee in the course of employment;\nand\n2. The employee is otherwise authorized by law to own or possess the\nfirearm.\n(b) 1. The agency shall notify employees of the i ntended replacement of\nfirearms and that employees may purchase firearms pursuant to\nparagraph (a) of this subsection.\n2. The employee desiring to purchase the firearm issued to the employee\nshall notify the head of the issuing agency of his or her intention not less\nthan ten (10) days after receiving notice of the intended replacement.\n(2) (a) Upon retirement from state employment, a state employee to whom a firearm\nhas been issued during the course of employment may purchase the firearm\nwhich was issued d uring the course of employment if the employee is\notherwise authorized to privately own or possess the firearm.\n(b) The employee desiring to purchase the firearm issued to the employee shall\nnotify the head of the issuing agency of such intention not less than thirty (30)\ndays prior to the scheduled date of retirement.\n(3) The purchase price shall be the fair market value determined by the Finance and\nAdministration Cabinet, Division of Personal Property. The proceeds from the sale\nof the firearm shall be d eposited to the credit of an agency account for the issuing\nagency and shall be used for the purpose of purchasing replacement firearms.\n(4) Any firearms that are not purchased by employees or retirees shall be disposed of\npursuant to KRS 45A.047.\n(5) This statute shall supersede other state laws with regard to the disposition of state\nproperty for the purpose stated in this section and for no other purpose.","path":["KRS Chapter 45A"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=44237","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:07Z","sha256":"431e8df99506b2ab5c492628f36bb36f4601e3db9a24cad2cb9504266c99c244","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-45a.554","next":"us-ky/krs-45a.605"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
