{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-500.050","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 500.050","heading":"Time limitations.","body":"(1) Except as otherwise expressly provided, the prosecution of a felony is not\nsubject to a period of limitation and may be commenced  at any time.\n(2) Except as otherwise expressly provided, the prosecution of an offense other\nthan a felony must be commenced  within one (1) year after it is committed.\n(3) (a) For a misdemeanor sex offense when the victim is a minor at the time of\nthe offense, the prosecution of the offense shall be commenced  within ten\n(10) years after the victim attains the age of eighteen (18) years.\n(b) As used in paragraph (a) of this subsection, \"misdemeanor sex offense\"\nmeans  a misdemeanor offense in:\n1. KRS  Chapter 510;\n2. KRS  Chapter 531 involving a minor or depiction of a minor; or\n3. KRS  506.010 or 506.030 for attempt to commit or solicitation to\ncommit:\na. Any  of the offenses described in subparagraphs 1. and 2. of\nthis paragraph;\nb. Promoting prostitution under KRS 529.040 when the defendant\nadvances or profits from the prostitution of a minor;\nc. Human  trafficking involving commercial sexual activity under\nKRS  529.100;\nd. Promoting  human  trafficking involving commercial sexual\nactivity under KRS 529.110; or\ne. Unlawful transaction with a minor in the first degree under KRS\n530.064(1)(a).\n(4) For purposes of this section, an offense is committed either when  every\nelement occurs, or if a legislative purpose to prohibit a continuing course of\nconduct plainly appears, at the time when  the course of conduct or the\ndefendant's complicity therein is terminated.","path":["KRS Chapter 500"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=50742","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:59:59Z","sha256":"f6903d8a7f6bbda2491702d12268018e7b1443ffd49c2594a5acfb7b9d26047d","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-500.040","next":"us-ky/krs-500.060"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
