{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-500.095","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 500.095","heading":"Alternative sentence of community work.","body":"(1) In every case in which a person pleads guilty to or is convicted of a crime\npunishable by imprisonment, the judge shall consider whether the person should be\nsentenced to a term of community service as an alternative to the prison term. The\nterm of communi ty service shall not be shorter than the length of the prison term\nnor longer than twice the length of the prison term. Failure to complete the\nprescribed term of community service shall be deemed a probation violation and\nshall subject the defendant to se rve the prison service originally fixed by the court\nor jury.\n(2) The clerk of the Circuit Court, under the direction of the Circuit Judges of the\ncircuit and in cooperation with the Administrative Office of the Courts and the\ngovernmental units within the  jurisdiction of the Circuit Court, shall maintain a\nschedule of community service work and projects for use by judges in setting\nalternative sentences. Any city, county, urban -county, or other governmental unit\ndesiring to participate in alternative sente nce community service work and projects\nshall submit to the clerk, on or before January 1, 1991, and every six (6) months\nthereafter, a list of community service work and projects it proposes for inclusion in\nthe schedule.\n(3) The Administrative Office of the Courts, under the direction of the Supreme Court,\nshall prepare a schedule of approved categories of alternative sentences which shall\nbe disseminated to all judges and circuit clerks.","path":["KRS Chapter 500"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=19646","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:59:59Z","sha256":"211e0a908cec6d3475fd163f9cac37dea14a30718845d5407ca5917bd665dd70","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-500.093","next":"us-ky/krs-500.100"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
