{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-501.010","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 501.010","heading":"Definitions.","body":"The following definitions apply in this chapter:\n(1) \"Culpable mental state\" means \"intentionally\" or \"knowingly\" or \"wantonly\" or\n\"recklessly,\" as these terms are defined in KRS 501.020.\n(2) \"Intoxication\" means a disturbance of mental or physical capacities resulting from\nthe introduction of substances into the body.\n(3) \"Voluntary act\" means a bodily movement performed consciously as a result of\neffort or determination and includes the possession of property if the actor was\naware of his physical possession or control thereof for a sufficient period to h ave\nbeen able to terminate it.\n(4) \"Voluntary intoxication\" means intoxication caused by substances which the\ndefendant knowingly introduces into his body, the tendency of which to cause\nintoxication he knows or ought to know, unless he introduces them pu rsuant to\nmedical advice or under such duress as would afford a defense to a charge of crime.","path":["KRS Chapter 501"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=19650","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T21:00:00Z","sha256":"f2087a8b7055eb08d34d89d5c28c32da1f8051279550ba8603051b7a5d578732","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-500.130","next":"us-ky/krs-501.020"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
