{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-507.040","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 507.040","heading":"Manslaughter in the second degree.","body":"(1) A person is guilty of manslaughter in the second degree when he or she wantonly\ncauses the death of another person, including but not limited to situations where the\ndeath results from the person's:\n(a) Operation of a motor vehicle;\n(b) Leaving a child und er the age of eight (8) years in a motor vehicle under\ncircumstances which manifest an extreme indifference to human life and\nwhich create a grave risk of death to the child, thereby causing the death of\nthe child;\n(c) Unlawful distribution for remunerati on of a Schedule I or II controlled\nsubstance when the controlled substance is the proximate cause of death; or\n(d) Knowing distribution of fentanyl or a fentanyl derivative to another person\nwithout remuneration, and the injection, ingestion, inhalation, or other\nintroduction of the fentanyl or fentanyl derivative causes the death of the\nperson.\n(2) Manslaughter in the second degree is a Class C felony.","path":["KRS Chapter 507"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=55440","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T21:00:01Z","sha256":"c78a07a9a99fd5887e8f52c0288dbaacfd06e1e51a8c7b99fd8f4e7e91a658cb","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-507.030","next":"us-ky/krs-507.050"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
