{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-508.180","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 508.180","heading":"Definitions for KRS 508.180 to 508.186.","body":"As used in KRS 508.180 to 508.186, unless the context requires otherwise:\n(1) \"Hazing\" means a direct action which substantially endangers the physical health of\na minor or student for the purpose of recruitment, initiation into, affiliation with, or\nenhancing or maintaining membership or status within any organization, including\nbut not limited to actions which coerce or force a minor or a student to:\n(a) Violate federal or state criminal law;\n(b) Consume any food, liquid, alcoholic liquid, drug, tobacco p roduct, or other\ncontrolled substance which subjects the minor or student to a risk of serious\nphysical injury;\n(c) Endure brutality of a physical nature, including whipping, beating or\npaddling, branding, or exposure to the elements;\n(d) Endure brutality of a sexual nature; or\n(e) Endure any other activity that creates a reasonable likelihood of serious\nphysical injury to the minor or student;\n(2) \"Organization\":\n(a) Means a number of persons who are associated with a school or\npostsecondary education inst itution and each other, including a student\norganization, fraternity, sorority, association, corporation, order, society,\ncorps, club, or similar group; and\n(b) Includes any student organization registered pursuant to the policies of the\nschool or postsecondary education institution at any time during the previous\nfive (5) years; and\n(3) \"Student\" means an individual enrolled in a public or private school or\npostsecondary program of study.","path":["KRS Chapter 508"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=53984","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T21:00:01Z","sha256":"f044a8c7cc670dc3872b91eec0192309d767bb7d08f685be6616c527bf145fc6","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-508.175","next":"us-ky/krs-508.182"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
