{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-511.110","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 511.110","heading":"Unlawful camping.","body":"(1) For purposes of this section:\n(a) \"Camp\" means to pitch, erect, or occupy camp facilities, or to use camp\nparaphernalia;\n(b) \"Camp facilities\" means structures for the use of camping, including but not\nlimited to tents, huts, temporary shelters, and vehicles; and\n(c) \"Camp paraphernalia\" means items used for camping purposes, including but\nnot limited to cots, beds, sleeping bags, and hammocks.\n(2) A person is guilty of unlawful camping when he or she knowingly enters or remains\non a public or private street, sidewalk, area under a bridge o r underpass, path, park,\ncemetery, or other area designated for use by pedestrians or vehicles, including\nareas used for ingress or egress to businesses, homes, or public buildings, with the\nintent to sleep or camp in that area, when the area has not been designated for the\npurpose of sleeping or camping or the individual lacks authorization to sleep or\ncamp in the area.\n(3) Unlawful camping is a:\n(a) Violation for the first offense; and\n(b) Class B misdemeanor for the second and each subsequent offense, or if during\nthe first offense the individual refuses to cease the offense.\n(4) Nothing in this section shall be construed to prohibit the customary and temporary\nuse of recreational camping areas, rest areas, or other properties that are specifically\ndesignated for purposes of resting or sleeping.\n(5) Nothing in this section shall prevent a person from sleeping temporarily in his or\nher vehicle p arked lawfully on a public road, street, or parking lot, where the\nsleeping and parking of the vehicle at the location occur for a period of less than\ntwelve (12) hours.","path":["KRS Chapter 511"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=55449","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T21:00:02Z","sha256":"9494b7c136748d2b7453454347481556d16f5036f1f052febfaabc458e4fc6ab","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-511.100","next":"us-ky/krs-512.010"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
