{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-516.010","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 516.010","heading":"Definitions.","body":"The following definitions apply in this chapter unless the context otherwise requires:\n(1) \"Coin machine\" means a coin box, turnstile, vending machine, or other mechanical\nor electronic device or receptacle designed:\n(a) To receive a coin or bill or token made for the purpose; and\n(b) In return for the insertion or deposit thereof, automatically to offer, provide,\nassist in providing, or permit the acquisition of property or service;\n(2) \"Complete written instrument\" means a written instrument which purport s to be a\ngenuine written instrument fully drawn with respect to every essential feature\nthereof;\n(3) \"Controlled substance\" has the same meaning as it does in KRS 218A.010;\n(4) \"Incomplete written instrument\" means a written instrument which contains some\nmatter by way of content or authentication but which requires additional matter in\norder to render it a complete written instrument;\n(5) To \"falsely alter\" a written instrument means to change, without the authority of\nanyone entitled to grant it, a writt en instrument, whether it be in complete or\nincomplete form, by means of erasure, obliteration, deletion, insertion of new\nmatter, transposition of matter, or in any other manner, so that such instrument in its\nthus altered form appears or purports to be i n all respects an authentic creation of or\nfully authorized by its ostensible maker or drawer;\n(6) To \"falsely complete\" a written instrument means to transform, by adding, inserting\nor changing matter, an incomplete written instrument into a complete one,  without\nthe authority of anyone entitled to grant it, so that the complete instrument appears\nor purports to be in all respects an authentic creation of or fully authorized by its\nostensible maker or drawer;\n(7) To \"falsely make\" a written instrument mean s to make or draw a complete written\ninstrument in its entirety or an incomplete written instrument, which purports to be\nan authentic creation of its ostensible maker or drawer, but which is not either\nbecause the ostensible maker or drawer is fictitious or because, if real, he did not\nauthorize the making or drawing thereof;\n(8) \"Forged instrument\" means a written instrument which has been falsely made,\ncompleted, or altered;\n(9) \"Slug\" means an object or article which by virtue of its size, shape, or any  other\nquality is capable of being inserted, deposited, or otherwise used in a coin machine\nas an improper substitute for a genuine coin, bill, or token;\n(10) \"Value of the slug\" means the value of the coin, bill, or token for which it is capable\nof being substituted; and\n(11) \"Written instrument\" means any instrument or article containing written or printed\nmatter or its equivalent used for the purpose of reciting, embodying, conveying, or\nrecording information, or constituting a symbol or evidence of value, right,\nprivilege, or identification, which is capable of being used to the advantage or\ndisadvantage of some person.","path":["KRS Chapter 516"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=19823","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T21:00:02Z","sha256":"20adac792a1998c2aea46f71051100277b8129e62ff60f5ee229e06db2bf120e","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-515.040","next":"us-ky/krs-516.020"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
