{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-518.090","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 518.090","heading":"Assault of sports official.","body":"(1) A person is guilty of assault of a sports official when he intentionally causes\nphysical injury to a sports official:\n(a) Who was performing sports official duties at the time the physical injury was\nperpetrated; or\n(b) If the physical injury occurs while the sports official is arriving at or departing\nfrom the athletic facility at which the athletic event occurred.\n(2) For the purposes of this section, \"sports official\" means an individual who serves as\na referee, umpire, linesman, or in a similar capacity  that may be known by another\ntitle, and who is duly registered as or is a member of a national, state, regional, or\nlocal organization engaged, in part, in providing education and training to sports\nofficials.\n(3) A person who is guilty of assault of a sp orts official shall, for a first offense, be\nguilty of a Class A misdemeanor, unless the defendant assembles with five (5) or\nmore persons for the purpose of assaulting a sports official, in which case it is a\nClass D felony.\n(4) A person who is guilty of assault of a sport official shall, for a second or subsequent\noffense, be guilty of a Class D felony.","path":["KRS Chapter 518"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=19857","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T21:00:03Z","sha256":"28454fd793e07549b6c718619546ecf5c3bf8b8c3a00f7f9664d52cb5efb4a25","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-518.080","next":"us-ky/krs-519.010"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
