{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-519.022","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 519.022","heading":"Impeding a first responder.","body":"(1) As used in this section:\n(a) \"First responder\" has the same meaning as in KRS 507.070, and includes a\nprobation or parole officer, university police officer, and airport police officer;\nand\n(b) \"Harass\" means to intentionally engage in a course of conduct directed at a\nfirst responder  which causes or is intended to cause substantial emotional\ndistress in the first responder and serves no legitimate purpose.\n(2) A person is guilty of impeding a first responder when, after receiving a verbal\nwarning not to approach from another person he  or she knows or reasonably should\nknow is a first responder who is engaged in the lawful performance of his or her\nduties, the person knowingly violates the verbal warning and approaches or remains\nwithin twenty-five (25) feet of the first responder with the intent to:\n(a) Impede or interfere with the first responder's ability to perform the first\nresponder's duties;\n(b) Threaten the first responder with physical harm; or\n(c) Harass the first responder.\n(3) Impeding a first responder is a:\n(a) Class B misdemeanor for the first offense;\n(b) Class A misdemeanor for a second or third offense; and\n(c) Class D felony for each subsequent offense.","path":["KRS Chapter 519"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=57578","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T21:00:03Z","sha256":"efef7e10031a8d93b8d34981ca133e97a5c0386a51657c5b390dea7642c25275","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-519.020","next":"us-ky/krs-519.030"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
