{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-519.030","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 519.030","heading":"Compounding a crime.","body":"(1) A person is guilty of compounding a crime when:\n(a) He solicits, accepts or agrees to accept any benefit upon an agreement or\nunderstanding that he will refrain from initiating a prosecution for a crime; or\n(b) He confers, offers, or agrees to confer any benefit upon another person upon\nagreement or understanding that such other person will refrain from initiating\na prosecution for a crime.\n(2) In any prosecution under this section, it is a defense that the benefit did not exceed\nan amount which the defendant reasonably believed to be due as restitutio n or\nindemnification for harm caused by the offense.\n(3) Compounding a crime is a Class A misdemeanor.","path":["KRS Chapter 519"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=19860","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T21:00:03Z","sha256":"631a6fd71f9b67fe03b2d106798ab578e34746bbe945c10d91f105865908591e","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-519.022","next":"us-ky/krs-519.040"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
