{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-521.020","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 521.020","heading":"Bribery of public servant.","body":"(1) A person is guilty of bribery of a public servant when:\n(a) He offers, confers, or agrees to confer any pecuniary benefit upon a public\nservant with the intent to influence the public servant's vote, opinion,\njudgment, exercise of discretion, or other acti on in his official capacity as a\npublic servant; or\n(b) While a public servant, he solicits, accepts, or agrees to accept any pecuniary\nbenefit upon an agreement or understanding that his vote, opinion, judgment,\nexercise of discretion, or other action as a public servant will thereby be\ninfluenced.\n(2) It is a defense under this section if a person confers or agrees to confer any\npecuniary benefit upon a public servant as a result of conduct of the public servant\nwhich constitutes extortion or coercion.\n(3) It is no defense to a prosecution under this section that the person sought to be\ninfluenced was not qualified to act in the desired way because he had not yet\nassumed office, lacked jurisdiction, or for any other reason.\n(4) Bribery of a public servant is a Class C felony.","path":["KRS Chapter 521"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=19882","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T21:00:03Z","sha256":"02db682344e40dee0f6e805aa8a9b661242cbc7eb5693b0063b83178bf32b82f","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-521.010","next":"us-ky/krs-521.030"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
