{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-525.010","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 525.010","heading":"Definitions for chapter.","body":"The following definitions apply in this chapter unless the context otherwise requires:\n(1) \"Desecrate\" means defacing, damaging, polluting, or otherwise physically\nmistreating in a way that the actor knows will outrage the sensibilities of persons\nlikely to observe or discover his or her action.\n(2) \"Public\" means affecting or likely to affect a substantial group of persons.\n(3) \"Public place\" means a place to which the public or a substantial group of persons\nhas access and includes but is not limited to h ighways, transportation facilities,\nschools, places of amusements, parks, places of business, playgrounds, and\nhallways, lobbies, and other portions of apartment houses and hotels not\nconstituting rooms or apartments designed for actual residence. An act i s deemed to\noccur in a public place if it produces its offensive or proscribed consequences in a\npublic place.\n(4) \"Transportation facility\" means any conveyance, premises, or place used for or in\nconnection with public passenger transportation by air, rai lroad, motor vehicle, or\nany other method. It includes aircraft, watercraft, railroad cars, buses, and air, boat,\nrailroad, and bus terminals and stations and all appurtenances thereto.\n(5) \"Riot\" means a public disturbance involving an assemblage of five (5) or more\npersons which by tumultuous and violent conduct creates grave danger of damage\nor injury to property or persons or substantially obstructs law enforcement or other\ngovernment function.\n(6) \"Service animal\" includes a:\n(a) \"Bomb detection dog,\" which means a dog that is trained to locate bombs or\nexplosives by scent;\n(b) \"Electronic detection dog,\" which means a dog that is trained to locate\nelectronic devices by scent;\n(c) \"Narcotic detection dog,\" which means a dog that is trained to locate narcotics\nby scent;\n(d) \"Patrol dog,\" which means a dog that is trained to protect a peace officer and\nto apprehend a person;\n(e) \"Tracking dog,\" which means a dog that is trained to tra ck and find a missing\nperson, escaped inmate, or fleeing felon;\n(f) \"Search and rescue dog,\" which means a dog that is trained to locate lost or\nmissing persons, victims of natural or man-made disasters, and human bodies;\n(g) \"Accelerant detection dog,\" wh ich means a dog that is trained for accelerant\ndetection, commonly referred to as arson canines;\n(h) \"Cadaver dog,\" which means a dog that is trained to find human remains;\n(i) \"Assistance dog,\" which has the same meaning as in KRS 258.500;\n(j) Any dog tha t is trained in more than one (1) of the disciplines specified in\nparagraphs (a) to (i) of this subsection;\n(k) \"Police dog,\" which means any dog that is owned, or the service of which is\nemployed, by a law enforcement agency as defined in KRS 61.298 for t he\nprincipal purpose of aiding in detection of criminal activity, enforcement of\nlaws, and apprehension of offenders; or\n(l) \"Police horse,\" which means any horse that is owned, or the service of which\nis employed, by a law enforcement agency for the princ ipal purpose of aiding\nin detection of criminal activity, enforcement of laws, and apprehension of\noffenders.","path":["KRS Chapter 525"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=55108","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T21:00:03Z","sha256":"4de53a185816518bf52f79f66014863eb84ffa5e4e2442a278bce8d7e36a3780","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-524.140","next":"us-ky/krs-525.015"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
