{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-526.050","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 526.050","heading":"Tampering with private communications.","body":"(1) A person is guilty of tampering with private communications when knowing that he\ndoes not have the consent of the sender or receiver, he unlawfully:\n(a) Opens or reads a sealed letter or other sealed private communication; or\n(b) Obtains in any manner from  an employee, officer or representative of a\ncommunications common carrier information with respect to the contents or\nnature of a communication.\n(2) The provisions of this section do not apply to the censoring of sealed letters or\nsealed communications for security purposes in official detention or penal facilities.\n(3) Tampering with private communications is a Class A misdemeanor.","path":["KRS Chapter 526"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=19952","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T21:00:04Z","sha256":"c2b42970d26aeca85cbc22ee25597eea632c9105dd197f51db11c572065d0efb","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-526.040","next":"us-ky/krs-526.060"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
