{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-532.007","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 532.007","heading":"Commonwealth's sentencing policy.","body":"It is the sentencing policy of the Commonwealth of Kentucky that:\n(1) The primary objective of sentencing shall be to maintain public safety and hold\noffenders accountable while reducing recidivism and criminal behavior and\nimproving outcomes for those offenders who are sentenced;\n(2) Reduction of recidivism and criminal behavior is a key measure of the performance\nof the criminal justice system;\n(3) Sentencing judges shall consider:\n(a) Beginning July 1, 2013, the results of a defendant's risk and needs as sessment\nincluded in the presentence investigation; and\n(b) The likely impact of a potential sentence on the reduction of the defendant's\npotential future criminal behavior;\n(4) All supervision and treatment programs provided for defendants shall utilize\nevidence-based practices to reduce the likelihood of future criminal behavior; and\n(5) All supervision and treatment programs shall be evaluated at regular intervals to\nmeasure and ensure reduction of criminal behavior by defendants in the criminal\njustice system.","path":["KRS Chapter 532"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=39523","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T21:00:05Z","sha256":"b990bd51a1cbca832e4b442240caf0e604b4143dc50c9d4c3792ea2a83c234be","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-532.005","next":"us-ky/krs-532.010"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
