{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-534.030","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 534.030","heading":"Fines for felonies.","body":"(1) Except as otherwise provided for an offense defined outside this code, a person who\nhas been convicted of any felony shall, in addition to any other punishment imposed\nupon him, be sentenced to pay a fine in an amount not less than one thousand\ndollars ($1,000) and not greater than ten thousand dollars ($10,000) or double his\ngain from commission of the offense, whichever is the greater.\n(2) In determining the amount and method of paying a fine for commission of a felony,\nthe court shall consider, among others, the following factors:\n(a) The defendant's ability to pay the amount of the fine;\n(b) The hardship likely to be imposed on the defendant's dependents by the\namount of the fine and the time and method of paying it;\n(c) The impact the amount of the fine will have on the defendant's ability to make\nreparation or restitution to the victim; and\n(d) The amount of the defendant's gain, if any, derived from the commission of\nthe offense.\n(3) When a defendant is convicted of two (2) or more felonies committed t hrough a\nsingle act and is sentenced to fines pursuant to subsection (1), the aggregate amount\nof the fines shall not exceed ten thousand dollars ($10,000) or double the amount of\nthe defendant's gain from commission of the offenses, whichever is the greater.\n(4) Fines required by this section shall not be imposed upon any person determined by\nthe court to be indigent pursuant to KRS Chapter 31.\n(5) This section shall not apply to a corporation.","path":["KRS Chapter 534"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=20097","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T21:00:06Z","sha256":"20bb5e14fc78082046043237a8a1228ced1c4204c01ca7f23e9f4376ae8d5af5","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-534.020","next":"us-ky/krs-534.040"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
