{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-6.237","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 6.237","heading":"Group life and group hospitalization insurance for members of General","body":"Assembly.\n(1) The secretary of the Finance and Administration Cabinet, upon the recommendation\nof the director of the Legislative Research Commission shall procure from one (1)\nor mor e life insurance companies, and from one (1) or more hospitalization\ninsurance companies, authorized to do business in this state, a policy or policies of\ngroup life insurance insuring the lives of all members of the General Assembly and\nshall procure a po licy or policies of group hospitalization insurance covering all\nmembers of the General Assembly. The policy or policies shall be approved by the\ncommissioner of the Department of Insurance and may contain such provisions as\nhe approves whether or not otherwise permitted by the insurance laws.\n(2) (a) The premiums shall be paid by the state for individual policies for members of\nthe General Assembly. The premiums for family policies shall be paid by\nfunds contributed partly from the policyholder and partly from the state.\n(b) No payment of premium by the state shall constitute compensation to an\ninsured employee for the purposes of any statute fixing or limiting the\ncompensation of such an employee; any premium or other expense incurred by\nthe state shall be considered a proper cost of administration.\n(3) The policy or policies may also provide accidental death and dismemberment\ninsurance and may contain such provisions with respect to the amounts of insurance\nfor members of the General Assembly, terms of eli gibility, continuation of\ninsurance after retirement, and such other provisions as the commissioner of the\nDepartment of Insurance may approve.\n(4) The secretary of the Finance and Administration Cabinet is authorized to perform\nall acts necessary or advis able for the purpose of contracting for and maintaining\ninsurance under the provisions of this section.","path":["KRS Chapter 6"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=289","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:48:24Z","sha256":"26b2a6f99fd57cd853f2bd657fd0e2f854fd50a61fa72b49d8752b70147db6df","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-6.235","next":"us-ky/krs-6.240"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
