{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-600.050","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 600.050","heading":"Designation and documentation of commitment of children needing","body":"protection or needing extraordinary services.\n(1) For the purposes of this section:\n(a) A child is deemed to need extraordinary services if the child is mentally or\nemotionally ill or has  symptoms of mental or emotional illness and requires\nmedical attention, and the child's parent, guardian, or other person exercising\ncustodial control or supervision over the child is unable to provide for the\nrequired treatment, care, or supervision of the child, and:\n1. The inability is due primarily to the lack of financial means of the child's\nparent, guardian, or other person exercising custodial control or\nsupervision unless assistance has been offered and rejected;\n2. The child's parent, guardian, or other person exercising custodial control\nor supervision has made a reasonable effort under the circumstances to\nmeet the needs of the child;\n3. The inability is not due to a willful act of commission or act of omission\nby the child's parent, guardian, o r other person exercising custodial\ncontrol or supervision; and\n4. Commitment is not opposed by the parent, guardian, or other person\nexercising custodial control or supervision; and\n(b) A child is deemed to need protection if the court determines the chil d is a\ndependent, abused, or neglected child and the needs of the child do not meet\nthe definition of a child in need of extraordinary services.\n(2) For children committed under KRS 620.140 after July 15, 1998, the court shall\ndesignate in the court order of commitment and the cabinet shall document in the\nofficial case file records showing whether the commitment is due to the child\nneeding protection or the child needing extraordinary services.","path":["KRS Chapter 600"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=20106","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T21:00:06Z","sha256":"43a37b978f30f950815ff2228a0de66c5216c21e89526ded6577ba399ed55947","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-600.040","next":"us-ky/krs-600.060"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
