{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-605.050","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 605.050","heading":"Appointment of chief probation officers and volunteer probation officers --","body":"Training.\n(1) In counties containing a city of the first class or a city with a population equal to or\ngreater than twenty thousand (20,000) as of the most recent federal de cennial\ncensus, the county judge/executive may appoint a chief probation officer of the\njuvenile court and such number of assistant probation officers, professional and\nclerical personnel as may be authorized by the fiscal court. Such officers shall\nreceive reasonable salaries to be fixed by the fiscal court, and shall be allowed their\nactual and necessary expenses incurred in the performance of their duties. The\nsalaries and expenses shall be paid out of the county treasury. The officers shall\nserve at the  pleasure of the county judge/executive but shall be subject to the\ndirection and control of the judges of the District Court in the performance of their\nduties. The officers shall be peace officers who shall possess all the powers of peace\nofficers in car rying out the purposes of KRS Chapters 600 to 645. A probation\nofficer may take into custody any child that he has reasonable grounds to believe is\nin violation of conditions of his probation.\n(2) In counties containing an urban-county government, the mayor shall appoint a chief\nprobation officer of the juvenile session of the District Court and such number of\nassistant probation officers, professional and clerical personnel as are reasonably\nnecessary for the operation of the juvenile session of the Distri ct Court. Such\nofficers shall receive reasonable salaries to be fixed by the urban -county council,\nand shall be allowed their actual and necessary expenses incurred in the\nperformance of their duties. The salaries and expenses shall be paid out of the\nurban-county treasury. The officers shall serve at the pleasure of the mayor but shall\nbe subject to the direction and control of the judges of the District Court in the\nperformance of their duties. The officers shall be peace officers who shall possess\nall the powers of peace officers in carrying out the purposes of KRS Chapters 600 to\n645. A probation officer may take into custody any child that he has reasonable\ngrounds to believe is in violation of conditions of his probation.\n(3) In any county, the Chief D istrict Judge may appoint or designate one (1) or more\ndiscreet persons of good moral character to serve as volunteer probation officers of\nthe juvenile session.
