{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-605.100","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 605.100","heading":"Care, treatment, and rehabilitation of committed children -- Validated","body":"needs and risk assessment.\n(1) The Department of Juvenile Justice or the cabinet shall arrange for a program of\ncare, treatment, and rehabilitation of the children committed to it,  which program\nshall be designed to provide for classification, segregation, and specialized\ntreatment of children according to their respective problems, needs, and\ncharacteristics, as identified through a validated needs and risk assessment, and to\nprovide a coordinated system of probation and parole services that includes a\ncontinuum of graduated sanctions.\n(2) The Department of Juvenile Justice or the cabinet shall be responsible for the\noperation, management, and development of the existing state facil ities for the\ncustodial care and rehabilitation of children committed to the Department of\nJuvenile Justice or the cabinet under provisions of this chapter. The Department of\nJuvenile Justice or the cabinet shall further be responsible for the development of\nsuch facilities as are necessary to provide an adequate and modern program for the\ncare, treatment, and rehabilitation of such children.\n(3) The facilities and programs under the control of the Department of Juvenile Justice\nor the cabinet shall be desi gned and operated in such a manner as to rehabilitate,\ntrain, develop, and educate the children to become good citizens and useful\nmembers of society.\n(4) Suitable programs of vocational education and training shall be carried on in the\nfacilities and prog rams, with the view of preparing the children for future self -\nsupport.\n(5) The children in each facility and program shall be employed so far as practicable in\nlabor incident to the maintenance and operation of the facility and program, and in\nsuitable ind ustries conducted by the facilities and programs as a part of the\nvocational training program.\n(6) The superintendent or managing officer of each facility may use, for the\nmaintenance of the facility, the products of farms, dairies, and other departments\nand industries of the facility or may sell or exchange such products for the benefit of\nthe facility.","path":["KRS Chapter 605"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=43504","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T21:00:06Z","sha256":"dbf7cf9ac6cec7e5a39694da2d3ea9fbc2d8d7630aef5d058995cf3758a32595","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-605.095","next":"us-ky/krs-605.102"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
