{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-61.300","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 61.300","heading":"Nonelective peace officer or deputy -- Qualifications.","body":"No person shall serve as a deputy sheriff, patrol or other nonelective peace officer, or\ndeputy peace officer, unless:\n(1) He or she is a citizen of the United States and is twenty -one (21) years of age or\nover;\n(2) A sheriff may require his or her deputies to reside in the county in which they serve.\nAny deputy sheriff appointed pursuant to this section who has not been a resident of\nthe county in which he or she serves for a period of at least two (2) years shall not\nbe an active participant in any labor dispute and shall immediately forfeit his or her\nposition if he violates this provision;\n(3) He or she has never been convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude;\n(4) He or she has not within a period of two (2) years hired himself or herself out,\nperformed any service, or received any compensation from any private source for\nacting, as a privately paid detective, policeman, guard, peace officer, or otherwise\nas an active participant in any labor dispute, or conducted the business of a private\ndetective agency or of any agency supplying private detectives, private policemen,\nor private guards, or advertised or solicited any such business in connection with\nany labor dispute; and\n(5) He or she has complied with the provisions of KRS 15.334.","path":["KRS Chapter 61"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=53264","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:14Z","sha256":"7730a99357cc990073523ed34c200abccc52fb2107b6ee6148682bc8d06fcac8","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-61.298","next":"us-ky/krs-61.310"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
