{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-61.409","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 61.409","heading":"Law enforcement agency not to establish requirements for employees","body":"relating to residency or voter registration -- Exceptions -- Application.\n(1) No state, city, county, urban -county, charter county, or consolidated local\ngovernment law enforcement agen cy shall set a residence requirement, except\nrequiring residence within the Commonwealth, for any of its employees who do not\npossess peace officer powers.\n(2) No state, city, county, urban -county, charter county, or consolidated local\ngovernment law enfor cement agency shall require that an employee, whether that\nemployee is a peace officer or not, be a registered voter.\n(3) The provisions of subsection (1) shall not preclude an employer or agency specified\nin subsection (1) from having a requirement for re sponse to a specified location\nwithin a specified time limit for an employee or volunteer who is off -duty but who\nis on-call to respond for work.\n(4) The residence requirements of subsection (1) of this section requiring residency\nwithin the Commonwealth s hall not apply to an employee of a law enforcement\nagency employed by that agency on July 15, 2002, until that employee's\nemployment relationship with the law enforcement agency is terminated.","path":["KRS Chapter 61"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=22943","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:14Z","sha256":"73fcd52d9b42ba8492a3c646c8f49ea07ded26c7f42ac4388aab2c16f46a8329","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-61.407","next":"us-ky/krs-61.410"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
