{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-65.134","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 65.134","heading":"Cold case investigations -- Law enforcement may contract with retired","body":"peace officer -- Conditions.\n(1) For purposes of this section:\n(a) \"Cold case\" means an unsolved criminal investigation;\n(b) \"Law enforcement agency\" means any police depart ment of a local\ngovernment or sheriff's department; and\n(c) \"Local government\" means any city, county, charter county government,\nconsolidated local government, urban -county government, or unified local\ngovernment.\n(2) Any law enforcement agency may contract with a retired peace officer when:\n(a) 1. New information concerning a cold case involving homicide is brought\nto the attention of the law enforcement agency; or\n2. The law enforcement agency wishes to conduct a review of its cold\ncases involving homicide; and\n(b) The retired peace officer could provide unique expertise or knowledge that\nwould aid in solving a cold case.\n(3) A retired peace officer contracted with pursuant to this section shall not be\nconsidered a peace officer for purposes of the contracted work and shall not\nexercise peace officer powers.\n(4) Any compensation received by a retired peace officer under this section shall not be\nconsidered creditable compensation for any retirement system the retired peace\nofficer participates in that is authorized under the Kentucky Revised Statutes.","path":["KRS Chapter 65"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=54903","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:20Z","sha256":"a6cef81523bdb1ae136de15c9bffdd33ece279cd1cdfc988365894b0340a9af4","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-65.133","next":"us-ky/krs-65.135"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
