{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-65.8805","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 65.8805","heading":"Definitions for KRS 65.8801 to 65.8839.","body":"As used in KRS 65.8801 to 65.8839, unless the context otherwise requires:\n(1) \"Local government\" means any county, consolidated local government, urban -\ncounty government, charter county government, unified local government, or city of\nany class;\n(2) \"Code enforcement board\" means an administrative body created and acting under\nthe authority of KRS 65.8801 to 65.8839;\n(3) \"Joint code enforcement board\" means two (2) or more local governments that have\nentered into an interlocal agreement in accordance with K RS 65.210 to 65.300 to\nperform and enforce the duties of a code enforcement board as provided in KRS\n65.8801 to 65.8839;\n(4) \"Code enforcement officer\" means a city police officer, safety officer, citation\nofficer, county police officer, sheriff, deputy sh eriff, university police officer,\nairport police officer, or other public law enforcement officer with the authority to\nissue a citation;\n(5) \"Ordinance\" means an official action of a local government body, which is a\nregulation of a general and permanent nature and enforceable as a local law and\nshall include any provision of a code of ordinances adopted by a local government\nwhich embodies all or part of an ordinance;\n(6) \"Imminent danger\" means a condition which is likely to cause serious or life -\nthreatening injury or death at any time;\n(7) \"Abatement costs\" means a local government's necessary and reasonable costs for\nand associated with clearing, preventing unauthorized entry to, or demolishing all or\na portion of a structure or premises, or taking any other action with regard to a\nstructure or premises necessary to remedy a violation and to maintain and preserve\nthe public health, safety, and welfare in accordance with any local government\nordinance;\n(8) \"Final order\" means any order:\n(a) Issued by the code enforcement board in accordance with KRS 65.8828(4) or\n(6);\n(b) Issued by an assigned hearing officer in accordance with KRS 65.8829(7) and\nthat is not appealed to the code enforcement board as provided in KRS\n65.8828(6);\n(c) Created because a violator neither paid nor contested the citation within seven\n(7) days as provided in KRS 65.8825(6); or\n(d) Created because of a failure of a violator to appear at a hearing the violator\nrequested to contest the citation as provided in KRS 65.8828(1);\n(9) \"Owner\" means a person, association, corporation, partnership, or other legal entity\nhaving a legal or equitable title in real property; and\n(10) \"Premises\" means a lot, plot, or parcel of land, including any structures upon it.","path":["KRS Chapter 65"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=45186","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:23Z","sha256":"327d563d1e40840f03c60bcfae002aa501eb1e88ccb6672629a48f56ab434c56","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-65.8801","next":"us-ky/krs-65.8808"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
