{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-65.8907","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 65.8907","heading":"Appointment of commissioners -- Terms.","body":"(1) After establishment of a commission, the chief executive officer of each member\nentity shall appoint one (1) commissioner to represent that member entity. A\ncommissioner shall be a customer, a resident, or an authorized representative of the\nmember entity, and shall be a resident of the county where the member entity that\nthe commissioner is appointed to represent is located. The appointment shall be\nsubject to the approval of the governing body of that member entity.\n(2) There shall be no fewer than three (3) commissioners appointed by member entities\nto a commission, and the commission shall always have an odd number of\ncommissioners. If the total number of commissioners is less than three (3) or is an\neven number, then the legislative bodies for the geogr aphic areas served by the two\n(2) member entities shall jointly appoint one (1) additional member. The additional\nmember shall be a resident of either of the service areas of the two (2) member\nentities.\n(3) Commissioners shall serve terms of four (4) year s and may be reappointed. Terms\nshall commence from the first day of the month when the order establishing the\ncommission was entered. Upon the expiration of a commissioner's term, a successor\nshall be appointed in the manner of the commissioner's original  appointment. Each\ncommissioner shall serve until a qualified successor is appointed, and any vacancy\nshall be filled for the balance of the unexpired term.\n(4) Initial commissioners shall serve the following terms:\n(a) One-third (1/3) of the commissioners shall serve for terms of two (2) years;\n(b) One-third (1/3) of the commissioners shall serve for terms of three (3) years;\nand\n(c) The remaining commissioners shall serve for terms of four (4) years.","path":["KRS Chapter 65"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=39877","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:23Z","sha256":"47ae2b74aee7a3f0d1f58698391e3818cbd337df4df8a59c9d8b6c921f94df9e","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-65.8905","next":"us-ky/krs-65.8909"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
