{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-67.020","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 67.020","heading":"Removal of county seat.","body":"(1) When a petition, signed in person by a number of legal voters of the county equal to\ntwenty-five percent (25%) of the number of votes cast in the county at the last\ngeneral election for county officers, is filed with the county judge/executive, asking\nfor an election on the proposition of removing the county seat, the county\njudge/executive, by orders entered of record, shall call an election on that\nproposition to be held on the day of the next general election for county officers that\ndoes not occur withi n less than ninety (90) days from the filing of the petition. No\norder calling such an election shall be legal unless the place to which the county\nseat is proposed to be removed is specified in the petition and in the order calling\nthe election.\n(2) The county judge/executive, by order entered of record, shall direct the sheriff to\nadvertise the election and its object by publication pursuant to KRS chapter 424.\n(3) If two-thirds (2/3) of all legal voters who vote at the election vote for removal, the\nfiscal court shall provide for the removal of the county seat.\n(4) Elections under this section shall not be held oftener than once every ten (10) years\nin the same county.","path":["KRS Chapter 67"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=23672","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:25Z","sha256":"bfd3761e62556fc903db61b1c79878f7a44d4bacf825ce6181e477fd5dd030b4","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-67.010","next":"us-ky/krs-67.030"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
