{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-67.030","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 67.030","heading":"Dividing county or striking off territory.","body":"(1) When a petition, describing a particular territory of a county and signed in person by\nnot less than a majority of the voters living in that territory, is filed with the county\njudge/executive, asking for an election on the proposition of dividing the coun ty or\nstriking the described territory from the county and attaching it to an adjoining\ncounty, the county judge/executive, by order entered of record, shall call an election\non that proposition to be held on the day of any regular election held in the cou nty\nfor other than county officers if the order is filed with the county clerk not later than\nthe second Tuesday in August preceding the day of the regular election. No order\ncalling such an election shall be legal unless it contains a specific description  of the\nterritory proposed to be stricken or divided.\n(2) The county judge/executive, by order entered of record, shall direct the sheriff to\nadvertise the election and its object by publication pursuant to KRS Chapter 424,\nand by printed handbills posted at the courthouse door and at not less than four (4)\nplaces in each precinct.\n(3) The proposition shall not be adopted unless a majority of all the legal voters of the\ncounty voting on the question vote in favor of it.\n(4) Any portion stricken off and added to another county as a result of the election shall\nbe bound for all costs expended.","path":["KRS Chapter 67"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=23673","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:25Z","sha256":"dbee0dc75f04a520bd1d20139fccc11dd067374e1e5ee0ff19d6c381cb22230c","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-67.020","next":"us-ky/krs-67.035"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
