{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-67.240","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 67.240","heading":"Certification of results of election -- Appointment of commissions to lay off","body":"justices' districts and select choice of names and county seats.\n(1) The result of the election in each county shall be certified by the county election\ncommissioners to the county judge/executive in each county. If a majority of the\nvoters of each county, voting on the proposition, approve the consolidation, the\ncounty judge/executive of each county shall, within thirty (30) days after the\nelection, appoint a commission to be  composed of three (3) voters of the county for\nthe purpose of dividing the area of the new county into districts for the election of\nmembers of the fiscal court for the new county. The said commissions representing\nthe two (2) counties shall meet together  within fifteen (15) days after their\nappointment and proceed to divide the area of the new county into three (3)\ndistricts, each to be as nearly equal in area and population as possible. The\ncommissions also shall select not less than two (2) and not more  than three (3)\nnames for the new county, and shall select not less than two (2) nor more than three\n(3) sites for the county seat of the new county. The report of the commissions,\nwhich shall act jointly, shall be filed with the county judge/executive of each county\nnot less than ninety (90) days after the appointment of the commissions.\n(2) If, at the expiration of ninety (90) days after the six (6) commissioners have been\nappointed as provided for herein, a majority of said commissioners have failed to\nagree upon the selection of three (3) names for the proposed county or three (3)\nplaces for the county seat to be submitted to the voters of the county as provided for\nin KRS 67.260, the Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky shall appoint a\nseventh perso n to act as chairman of said board of commissioners and said\nchairman shall not have a vote on any question except in case of a tie vote.
