{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-67.705","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 67.705","heading":"Qualifications -- Vacancy -- Salary -- Minimum annual compensation --","body":"Exception -- Duties and salaries of judge/executive and magistrates or\ncommissioners in county containing a consolidated local government.\n(1) Each county shall have a chief exe cutive officer known as the county\njudge/executive. Only a resident of the county shall be eligible for election as\ncounty judge/executive. He shall be nominated and elected by the qualified voters\nof the county in the manner provided by law for the electi on of county officers. In\ncase the office of county judge/executive becomes vacant by reason of death,\nresignation, or removal, it shall be filled with a person appointed by the Governor,\nin accordance with Section 152 of the Constitution, for the unexpire d term. The\nGovernor shall appoint a person to fill a vacancy in the office of county\njudge/executive not later than thirty (30) days after the date on which the vacancy\noccurs. If a vacancy occurs in the office of county judge/executive, the remaining\nmembers of fiscal court shall elect one (1) of their members to serve as temporary\ncounty judge/executive until the Governor fills the vacancy in the office,\nnotwithstanding the provisions of KRS 61.080(2) to the contrary.\n(2) The county judge/executive shall  receive an annual salary pursuant to the salary\nschedule in KRS 64.5275, except in counties that contain an urban -county form of\ngovernment or a consolidated local government, where the county judge/executive\nshall receive the salary set by the legislative body.\n(3) Except in counties containing a consolidated local government, in no event shall the\ncounty judge/executive, justice of the peace, magistrate, or commissioners who\nserve on the fiscal court holding office on January 2, 1978, receive less than t he\ntotal annual compensation received by that official during calendar year 1976.\n(4) In a county containing a consolidated local government, the county judge/executive\nand magistrates or commissioners may have those duties as determined by\nordinance of th e consolidated local government and shall receive a salary as set by\nthe legislative council of the consolidated local government for those duties.","path":["KRS Chapter 67"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=23769","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:26Z","sha256":"31d8f28a23e31a0b6116e3c046b121ad915073170491caede3d0e3e4b34561e1","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-67.700","next":"us-ky/krs-67.710"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
