{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-67.865","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 67.865","heading":"Merit or civil service system for employees.","body":"(1) If a comprehensive plan adopted pursuant to KRS 67.830 requires the\nimplementation of a merit or civil service system for the employees of a charter\ncounty government, the system shall be implemented by the charter county\ngovernment to guarantee the substa ntive and procedural rights possessed by any\nemployee of a government in existence within the boundaries of the charter county\nprior to the effective date of merger.\n(2) During the time a merit or civil service system is being implemented pursuant to the\nrequirements of a comprehensive plan, all procedural and substantive rights\npossessed by any employee of a government in existence within the boundaries of\nthe charter county prior to the effective date of merger shall be protected.\n(3) If a comprehensive p lan adopted pursuant to KRS 67.830 does not require the\nimplementation of a merit or civil service system for the employees of a charter\ncounty government, the charter county government shall continue to guarantee the\nsubstantive and procedural rights poss essed by those employees who had merit\nsystem or civil service protection through a local government in existence within\nthe boundaries of the charter county prior to the effective date of merger.","path":["KRS Chapter 67"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=23812","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:27Z","sha256":"f4b3313fe22c3c514dad52cac396e71b89d11a1bce0ee143d97cd1802a100173","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-67.862","next":"us-ky/krs-67.870"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
