{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-67.904","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 67.904","heading":"Procedure for initiation of unification process -- Appointment of unification","body":"review commission.\nThe unification process shall be initiated in the following manner:\n(1) The legislative body of one (1) or more cities within the county and the county\nfiscal court may enact ordinances proposing that a commission be formed to study\nthe question of unifying the county government with one (1) or more cities within\nthe county to form a unified local government. The executive authority of each city\nenacting an ordinance shall cause a copy of the ordinance to be filed with the county\nclerk no later than ten (10) days after enactment.\n(2) The county clerk shall be responsible for determining whether the required\nordinances have been filed to initiate the unificati on process. The unification\nprocess shall be initiated when the county clerk determines that:\n(a) An ordinance has been enacted by the county fiscal court under subsection (1)\nof this section; and\n(b) An ordinance has been enacted and filed by one (1) or m ore cities within the\ncounty.\n(3) If the county clerk makes the determination required by subsection (2) of this\nsection, the clerk shall notify the county judge/executive, the mayor of each city\nwithin the county, and the chief executive officer of every special district within the\ncounty that the unification process has been initiated by the county and the city or\ncities named in the notification.\n(4) Within sixty (60) days of notification by the county clerk that the unification\nprocess has been official ly initiated, a unification review commission shall be\nappointed.","path":["KRS Chapter 67"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=23817","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:27Z","sha256":"71dcf34e7cd9392f3feb2a3a6d64c061da11923bb929886747a0e8798ef92e55","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-67.902","next":"us-ky/krs-67.906"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
