{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-67b.020","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 67B.020","heading":"Definitions.","body":"As used in this chapter, the following words or terms shall have the respective meanings\nindicated, unless a different meaning is clearly indicated by the context:\n(1) \"Department\" means a metropolitan correctional services department created or\nmaintained by a consolidated local government or the fiscal court of a county\ncontaining a city of the first class, where the constitutional offices of sheriff and\njailer have been consolidated, pursuant to this chapter.\n(2) \"Fiscal court\" means the county judge/exe cutive and justices of the peace of a\ncounty, or the county judge/executive and three (3) county commissioners elected\npursuant to KRS 67.050 and 67.060, which exercises the legislative functions of a\ncounty as provided by the provisions of the Kentucky Revised Statutes.\n(3) \"Correctional facility\" means the county jail and all other detention and penal\nfacilities of a county or consolidated local government, whether for juvenile or adult\noffenders and public wards, together with all rehabilitative faciliti es of such a\ncounty or consolidated local government for juvenile or adult offenders and for\npublic wards, including facilities operated by private agencies under contract with\nthe consolidated local government or fiscal court, as such facilities may be\ndesignated from time to time by the consolidated local government or fiscal court.\n(4) \"Sheriff\" means the sheriff of a county or the sheriff in a county containing a\nconsolidated local government who has been duly elected by the qualified voters as\nprovided in Section 99 of the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.\n(5) \"Jailer\" means the jailer of a county or the jailer in a county containing a\nconsolidated local government who has been duly elected by the qualified voters of\na county as provided in Section 99 of the Constitution of the Commonwealth of\nKentucky.\n(6) \"Governmental agency\" means any incorporated city, division of a city, or\nconsolidated local government, including the United States of America, and its\nagencies and instrumentalities, sit uated within, or conducting public operations\nwithin, a county in which a metropolitan correctional services department has been\nduly established.\n(7) \"Consolidated local government\" means a local government established pursuant to\nKRS Chapter 67C.","path":["KRS Chapter 67B"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=23990","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:29Z","sha256":"f6303ea81e8a4ec762c81430c94e929526254a9bda93980e8fdbf31a06973c43","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-67b.010","next":"us-ky/krs-67b.030"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
