{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-67b.030","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 67B.030","heading":"Establishment and nature of department -- Duties of jailer and limited","body":"duties of sheriff vested in department.\n(1) A metropolitan correctional services department may be established or maintained\nby ordinance of a consolidated local government or by o rder of the fiscal court of\nany county containing a city of the first class, in which the constitutional offices of\nsheriff and jailer have been consolidated as provided in Section 105 of the\nConstitution of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Said department sh all, upon its\ncreation or maintenance, constitute a de jure department and division of the\nconsolidated local or county government, having and possessing all of the\nenumerated powers, responsibilities, and duties hereinafter specifically set forth.\n(2) Upon the creation or maintenance of a metropolitan correctional services\ndepartment by the consolidated local government or fiscal court of a county\ncontaining a city of the first class, in which the constitutional offices of sheriff and\njailer have been cons olidated pursuant to Section 105 of the Constitution of the\nCommonwealth of Kentucky, all of the duties, responsibilities, and liabilities of the\nsheriff and jailer as set forth and contained in the Kentucky Revised Statutes, with\nreference to the operatio n and maintenance of the county jail and all county\ncorrectional facilities shall immediately be vested in the department and thereupon\nthe sheriff and jailer shall have no further responsibility, duty, and liability for the\nperformance of said statutory d uties on a personal basis; provided, however, that\nsaid sheriff shall be required to annually inspect all county correctional facilities and\nrender reports as hereinafter provided.","path":["KRS Chapter 67B"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=23991","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:29Z","sha256":"baf475f008066602ec5087ae7c8440ddfaa39a5ccb04b3bc921199642714d55b","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-67b.020","next":"us-ky/krs-67b.040"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
