{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-67c.139","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 67C.139","heading":"Authority over appointments upon establishment of consolidated local","body":"government.\nIf a cooperative compact exists between a city of the first class and its county prior to the\ncreation of a consolidated local government, upon the establishment  of the consolidated\nlocal government:\n(1) (a) The mayor of the consolidated local government shall assume all appointment\nauthority previously held by the county judge/executive and the mayor of the\nconsolidating governments. Appointments made by the mayo r should reflect\nthe political, geographic, gender, age, and racial diversity of the population\nwithin the jurisdiction of the consolidated local government. Upon the\nexpiration of a term of appointment, the mayor shall make an appointment or\nreappointment within ninety (90) days of the term's expiration.\n(b) If the mayor fails to make an appointment within ninety (90) days, the\nlegislative council of the consolidated local government shall make the\nappointment within thirty (30) days after the expiration o f the ninety (90) day\nperiod. The legislative council's appointment shall take into account the\npolitical, geographic, gender, age, and racial diversity of the population. The\nlegislative council shall adopt a resolution specifying how these appointments\nshall be made; and\n(2) (a) The mayor shall make all appointments to agencies, boards, and commissions\nestablished by statute in the manner as prescribed by statute, subject to any\nrequirements for legislative body approval as required by the relevant statutes.\nNotwithstanding any other provisions of the Kentucky Revised Statutes, the\nlegislative body of the consolidated local government shall have sixty (60)\ndays in which to give approval of an appointment, if approval is required by\nstatute.\n(b) The presidi ng officer of the legislative council shall make all legislative\ncouncil appointments to agencies, boards, and commissions from the\nmembership of the legislative council, subject to paragraph (a) of this\nsubsection.","path":["KRS Chapter 67C"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=53065","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:29Z","sha256":"ab178db6a7587ea0d1ba94a131dab864aeb972e087e1cbd91f63d30f8b0c0231","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-67c.137","next":"us-ky/krs-67c.141"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
