{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-67c.317","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 67C.317","heading":"Soliciting and receiving political contributions -- Appointment or","body":"promotion for political service -- Discipline for failure to make political\ncontribution -- Opinions and beliefs -- Political or religious controversies --\nPolitical activity prohibited.\n(1) No officer while on duty or in uniform covered by the provisions of KRS 67C.301\nto 67C.327 shall directly or indirectly solicit or receive or be in any manner\nconcerned in receiving, soliciting, or publicizing any assessment, gift, subscription,\nor contribution to or for any political party or candidate for public office.\n(2) No person shall use or promise to use his or her personal influence or official\nauthority to secure any appointment or promotion to any position of employment\ncovered by the pro visions of KRS 67C.301 to 67C.327, as a reward or return for\npersonal or partisan political service. No candidate applying for original\nappointment or promotion to any position of employment covered by KRS 67C.301\nto 67C.327 shall sign or execute or promise to sign or execute a resignation dated or\nundated in advance of his or her appointment or promotion. No officer covered by\nthe provisions of KRS 67C.301 to 67C.327 shall be suspended, laid -off, demoted,\npromoted, disciplined, or threatened, or in any way  changed in rank, duty, or\ncompensation for withholding or neglecting to pay or make any contribution of any\nsort, either in money, goods, services, or anything of value for any political purpose\nwhatsoever.\n(3) No examination question on any examination g iven by the board shall relate to any\npolitical or religious opinion, belief, affiliation, or service and no appointment,\npromotion, demotion, suspension, or removal shall be brought about, affected, or\ninfluenced by these opinions, beliefs, affiliations, or services.\n(4) No officer covered by the provisions of KRS 67C.301 to 67C.327 shall foster,\npromote, or be concerned with any actions involving political or religious\ncontroversies or prejudices while in uniform.\n(5) No officer covered by KRS 67C.301 to 67C.327 and no probationary officer shall,\nwhile on duty, in uniform, or using public resources, propose or oppose the\nplacement of a question or advocate for the adoption or defeat of a question to be\nvoted upon by the voters of the government under which the officer is employed.\n(6) Nothing contained in KRS 67C.301 to 67C.327 shall be so construed as to abridge\nthe rights of any officer with respect to his or her personal opinions, beliefs, and\nright to vote.","path":["KRS Chapter 67C"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=24034","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:29Z","sha256":"10f339ba9ccc2bf36cd31e29bdb8c7fc23bc3b79d6adea5eaff05a024afda0c0","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-67c.315","next":"us-ky/krs-67c.319"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
