{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-70.110","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 70.110","heading":"Execution of process after leaving office -- Rights of sureties.","body":"(1) When a sheriff dies or otherwise vacates his office, his deputies shall complete the\nexecution of any process in his or their hands. The sureties on the bond of the\nsheriff may require indemnity from the deputies in the manner prescribed for\nsureties in of ficial or other bonds in KRS 62.090 to 62.120. If the deputies fail to\ngive the indemnity which the court requires, their powers to act as deputy shall be\nrevoked by the court.\n(2) When the term of a sheriff expires, he shall complete the execution of any  process\nin his hands, and any act or omission in this respect shall be covered by his official\nbond.\n(3) When a sheriff resigns, dies or vacates his office, the plaintiff in any process or\nexecution, upon paying to the sheriff or his deputy the fees and lawful charges for\nservices rendered up to the time of withdrawal, may withdraw such process or\nexecution from the hands of the sheriff or his deputy, and place the same, at his\nelection, in the hands of any other proper officer, who shall proceed to the execution\nthereof in the same manner that the sheriff or his deputy was required to do by law,\nand under the same penalties.","path":["KRS Chapter 70"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=24205","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:32Z","sha256":"874f20a13bfb0a61b8d85928de9f26eb72856312ebe598294f0ba66b8fd8d280","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-70.105","next":"us-ky/krs-70.120"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
