{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-70.200","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 70.200","heading":"Elisor -- How appointed -- Term of office -- Powers -- Compensation.","body":"(1) If the office of sheriff is vacant in any county, the Circuit Judge may appoint a\ncitizen of the county to act as elisor. The elisor shall hold his office for one (1) year\nor until a sheriff is qualified, unless removed by the Circuit Judge.\n(2) The person  appointed shall give bond, to be approved by the county\njudge/executive, to cover all claims that may come to his hands. The elisor shall\ntake the oath prescribed by law for sheriffs.\n(3) The elisor may levy and collect executions, convey and sell land, a nd perform all\nacts and duties which are by law, devolved upon sheriffs, except that he shall not\ncollect any kind of taxes or any judgment rendered upon any bonds or the coupons\nthereof issued or executed for any subscription to the capital stock of any r ailroad\ncompany or in aid of the construction of any railroad.\n(4) He shall receive the same fees and compensation as the sheriff and be paid in the\nsame manner.","path":["KRS Chapter 70"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=24214","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:32Z","sha256":"e1309f93fcb3fd733fba4477349848999454ab6d2d6376fc5dab7155a4d72b33","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-70.190","next":"us-ky/krs-70.210"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
