{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-72.992","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 72.992","heading":"Penalties.","body":"(1) Any person who violates KRS 72.020(1) or who interferes with the coroner in the\nlawful performance of his duties shall be fined not less than two hundred fifty\ndollars ($250), or be confined in jail for not more than ninety (90) days, or both.\n(2) Any coroner or deputy coroner who violates KRS 72.025 or 72.020 shall be guilty\nof willful neglect of official duties and shall be fined no more than one thousand\ndollars ($1,000) or forfeiture of office or both.\n(3) Any law enforcement officer who violates KRS 72 .020 shall be guilty of willful\nneglect of official duties and shall be fined no more than one thousand dollars\n($1,000) or forfeiture of office or both.\n(4) (a) 1. Except as provided in subparagraph 2. of this paragraph, any violation of\nKRS 72.031 by an individual other than the surviving spouse, children,\nparents, or personal representative of the decedent shall result in a fine\nof not more than five hundred dollars ($500) for the first violation and\nnot more than one thousand dollars ($1,000) for each s ubsequent\nviolation.\n2. Any violation of KRS 72.031(3) shall result in a fine which equals the\ngreater of the appropriate fine provided for in subparagraph 1. of this\nparagraph or three (3) times any profits derived from violating KRS\n72.031(3).\n(b) Any fine collected under paragraph (a) of this subsection shall be paid into the\ncrime victims' compensation fund created under KRS 49.480.","path":["KRS Chapter 72"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=46288","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:33Z","sha256":"488939787c232a4f67fc33ade38eff2b06d2ed872aad4a81fa821488d5e129bb","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-72.991","next":"us-ky/krs-73.010"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
