{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-74.415","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 74.415","heading":"Commissioners may consider installation of fire hydrants on new or","body":"extended water lines.\n(1) The commissioners of a water district, or the governing body of a water association\nreferred to in KRS 74.012(1), in order to provide adequate means of fire pr otection,\nmay consider the installation of fire hydrants on new or extended water lines within\ntheir area. They may investigate the availability of supplementary funding to pay the\nincremental costs of line sizing and hydrant installation. The commissioner s or\ngoverning body shall not eliminate fire hydrants from new or extended water lines\nunless they determine that hydrants are not feasible. Their analysis shall include\nconsideration of the incremental costs of adequately sized pipe and associated\npumps a nd towers, and the benefits of real estate development, water sales, the\navailability of fire protection insurance, and the reduced fire insurance premiums\nwhich may result from the installation of hydrants at specified intervals.\n(2) If a private real estate subdivision developer has not included adequately sized pipe\nand fire hydrants in his development plan, the commissioners of a water district or\nthe governing body of a water association which has the capacity to supply adequate\nwater for fire hydrants shall require, at the time the developer applies for permission\nto hook into the district's water lines, an analysis by the developer of the\nincremental cost of hydrants and piping adequately sized for hydrants, the effect of\nhydrants on the cost and availability of fire protection insurance, and conclusions as\nto why the installation of hydrants is not feasible.","path":["KRS Chapter 74"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=24418","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:34Z","sha256":"2acc85010aba3efbd070419bc0e0fc142658a71b7de90ba06522c3be019df8f1","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-74.414","next":"us-ky/krs-74.416"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
