{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-75a.060","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 75A.060","heading":"Board to oversee provision of emergency medical services to residents in","body":"service area -- Other powers -- Establishment, maintenance, and operation of a\nconsolidated emergency services district -- Authorized activities.\n(1) The board shall oversee the provision of emergency services to residents within the\nservice area of the district and may:\n(a) Purchase vehicles and all other necessary equipment and employ trained\npersonnel who meet all federal and state requirements;\n(b) Adopt rules and reg ulations necessary to effectively and efficiently provide\nemergency services for the district;\n(c) Employ a chief;\n(d) Employ persons to administer the daily operations of the emergency services\ndistrict;\n(e) Compensate employees of the district at a rate determined by the board;\n(f) Apply for and receive available funds from the state and federal governments\nfor the purpose of maintaining or improving the emergency services of the\ndistrict; and\n(g) Acquire by bequest, gift, grant, or purchase any real or p ersonal property\nnecessary to provide emergency services.\n(2) The establishment, maintenance, and operation of a consolidated emergency\nservices district shall include but not be limited to the following activities:\n(a) Acquisition and maintenance of adequ ate fire protection and, where\napplicable, emergency medical response facilities or rescue facilities;\n(b) Acquisition and maintenance of adequate firefighting and, where applicable,\nmedical response equipment or rescue equipment;\n(c) Recruitment, training  and supervision of firefighters and, where applicable,\nany emergency medical service or rescue personnel;\n(d) Control and extinguishment of fires;\n(e) Prevention of fires;\n(f) Conducting fire safety activities;\n(g) Payment of compensation to firefighters and where applicable, to emergency\nmedical service and rescue personnel, and providing the necessary support and\nsupervisory personnel;\n(h) Payment for reasonable benefits or a nominal fee to volunteer firefighters\nwhen benefits and fees do not constitute wages or salaries under KRS Chapter\n337 and are not taxable as income to the volunteer firefighters under Kentucky\nor federal income tax laws; and\n(i) Use of consolidated emergency services district equipment for activities which\nare for a public purpose and which do not materially diminish the value of the\nequipment.\n(3) The board shall comply with KRS 65A.010 to 65A.090.","path":["KRS Chapter 75A"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=51255","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:35Z","sha256":"e0b814f08293cf9dc6627e34ca073a5388801c46f4623086c1bd3ef6d8a341d2","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-75a.050","next":"us-ky/krs-75a.070"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
