{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-78.405","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 78.405","heading":"Powers of counties to create police force merit system -- Appropriations.","body":"(1) Any county of the Commonwealth of Kentucky may, by order of its fiscal court,\nduly made and entered of record, create a county police force merit system, and for\nthat purpose, establish a county police force merit board, whose duties it shall be to\nclassify and examine applicants seeking employment as officers or employees of the\npolice force of the said county, and in addition thereto to promulgate rules and\nregulations not inconsistent with KRS 78.400 to 78.480 and 78.990 governing the\nclassification, qualification, examination, appointment, probation, promotion,\ndemotion, fine, suspension and other disciplinary action within the said county\npolice force of all personnel of the county police force or forces affected and\ncovered by KRS 78.400 to 78.460 and 78.990, and in addition thereto, to hold such\nhearings, public and executive, and impose such penalties upon the personnel\naffected by KRS 78.400 to 78.460 and 78.990.\n(2) Fiscal courts affected hereby shall make appropriations of money for the reasona ble\nand necessary expenses of the said board.","path":["KRS Chapter 78"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=24707","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:38Z","sha256":"301f502c6dc848b52a418485c4b7a5a4e47929d556ff4b802af7c0fa00f5a85f","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-78.400","next":"us-ky/krs-78.410"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
