{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-78.435","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 78.435","heading":"Political activities forbidden.","body":"(1) No officer or employee covered by the provisions of KRS 78.400 to 78.460 shall\ndirectly or indirectly solicit or receive or be in any manner whatever concerned in\nreceiving, soliciting or publicizing any assessment, gift, subscription or contribution\nto or for any political party or candidate for public office.\n(2) No person shall use or promise to use his personal influence or official authority to\nsecure any appointment or promotion to any position of employment covered by the\nprovisions of KRS 78.400 to 78.460, as a reward or return for personal or partisan\npolitical service. No candidate applying for original appointment or promotion to\nany position of employment covered by KRS 78.400 to 78.460 shall sign or execute\nor promise to sign or execute a resign ation dated or undated in advance of such\nappointment or promotion. No officer or employee covered by the provisions of\nKRS 78.400 to 78.460 shall be suspended, laid -off, demoted, promoted, fined,\ndisciplined or threatened, or in any way changed in rank, d uty or compensation for\nwithholding or neglecting to pay or make any contribution of any sort, or character,\neither in money, goods or services or anything of value for any political purpose\nwhatsoever.\n(3) No examination question in any examination held b y the board shall relate to any\npolitical or religious opinion, belief, affiliation or service and no appointment,\npromotion, demotion, suspension, fine or removal shall be brought about, effected,\naffected or influenced by such opinions, beliefs, affiliations or services.\n(4) No officer or employee covered by KRS 78.400 to 78.460 shall foster, promote, or\nbe concerned with any actions involving political or religious controversies or\nprejudices while in uniform.\n(5) Nothing contained in KRS 78.400 to 78.46 0 shall be so construed as to abridge the\nrights of any officer or employee with respect to his or her personal opinions or\nbeliefs or right to vote.","path":["KRS Chapter 78"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=24714","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:38Z","sha256":"9adc214a18ee977ff0ef86fffb4b0f2a6f086c3ba9ec3d28cc7e7e99f135a935","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-78.430","next":"us-ky/krs-78.440"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
