{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-80.266","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 80.266","heading":"Membership of authority -- Compensation -- Interlocal agreements.","body":"(1) (a) Except as provided in paragraph (b) of this subsection, the city-county housing\nauthority shall be composed of eight (8) members. The mayor shall appoint\nfour (4) members, and the county judge/executive shall appoint four (4)\nmembers. No more than four (4)  appointees on any housing authority shall be\naffiliated with the same political party.\n(b) 1. If a city-county housing authority has agreed to accept a transfer or full\ntransfer of ownership and operation of another city's public housing\nprogram pursuant to the United States Housing Act of 1937, the housing\nauthority shall be composed of four (4) members appointed by the\nmayor, four (4) members appointed by the county judge/executive, and\none (1) additional person appointed by each mayor of a city divesti ng\nitself of its authority, with the approval of that city's legislative body.\n2. If a city-county housing authority has agreed to accept a transfer or full\ntransfer of ownership and operation of another city's public housing\nprogram pursuant to the United States Housing Act of 1937, and:\na. Has an even number of members, then no more than half of the\nappointees on any city -county housing authority shall be affiliated\nwith the same political party; or\nb. Has an odd number of members, then no more than half  of the\nappointees plus one (1) member of any city -county housing\nauthority shall be affiliated with the same political party.\n(2)  Each person appointed to a city -county housing authority shall be at least twenty -\nfive (25) years of age and a bona fide resident of the city or county for which he was\nappointed for at least one (1) year preceding the appointment. No officer or\nemployee of the city or county, whether holding a paid or unpaid office, is eligible\nto hold an appointment on the housing authority. No more than two (2) appointees\nby the mayor or no more than two (2) appointees by the county judge/executive\nshall be affiliated with the same political party. Two (2) of the four (4) members\nappointed by the mayor shall be designated to serve for terms o f two (2) years and\ntwo (2) for terms of four (4) years, respectively, from the date of their appointments.\nTwo (2) of the four (4) members appointed by the county judge/executive shall be\ndesignated to serve for terms of two (2) years, and two (2) for ter ms of four (4)\nyears, respectively, from the date of their appointments. Thereafter, all members of\nthe city-county housing authority shall be appointed as aforesaid for a term of office\nof four (4) years, except that all vacancies shall be filled for the unexpired terms.\n(3) (a) Each member of a city -county housing authority may receive compensation\neither as a salary or as payment for meetings attended. Any compensation of\nthe members of a city -county housing authority shall be fixed by the\nlegislative body of the city and the county. The housing authority may fix the\ncompensation of the secretary and treasurer, but the city and county legislative\nbodies may fix or limit the salary.\n(b) If a city -county housing authority has agreed to accept a transfer or  full\ntransfer of ownership and operation of another city's public housing program\npursuant to the United States Housing Act of 1937, the city and county that\nare members of the housing authority may enter into an interlocal agreement\npursuant to KRS 65.21 0 to 65.300 with the city that is divesting  itself of the\nauthority, agreeing to pay all or a portion of the compensation of the member\nrepresenting that divesting city.","path":["KRS Chapter 80"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=47649","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:40Z","sha256":"9378b614705360898acc155583b9be4a5e696f8e8f35af884e91557b7d0b4af7","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-80.264","next":"us-ky/krs-80.270"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
