{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-81.420","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 81.420","heading":"Election whether to merge.","body":"(1) Elections shall be held at the next regular election if the ordinances of the legislative\nbodies of the cities desiring merger or consolidation have been filed with the county\nclerk not later than the second Tuesday in August preceding the regular election .\nThe qualifications of voters and all other matters in regard to the election shall be\ngoverned by the general election laws. The question shall be submitted in\nsubstantially the following form:\n\"Are you in favor of merging or consolidating the city of _ ____ and the city of\n_____ into one city, to be known as the city of _____\"?\nyes ____\nno ____\n(2) If a majority of the legal votes cast at the election in all of the cities, each city being\na separate unit in the elections, proposing to merge or consolid ate shall favor the\nmerger or consolidation, then thirty (30) days after the certification of the results of\nthe election the cities shall become one (1) city of the class and organizational\nstructure of the largest of the old cities, but if a majority of the legal voters in either\ncity vote \"No,\" the merger or consolidation shall fail.\n(3) In addition to other public notice requirements, a merged or consolidated city shall\ncomply with the provisions of KRS 81A.470, but shall not be required to comply\nwith the provisions of KRS 81A.475.","path":["KRS Chapter 81"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=39822","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:42Z","sha256":"6e0e860a7d56a66f51b54b20c90eae3eb377610222046f2ef8a87275f2a75072","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-81.410","next":"us-ky/krs-81.430"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
