{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-81.430","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 81.430","heading":"Legislative bodies of merged cities.","body":"(1) The members of the legislative bodies of the merging cities shall continue to hold\ntheir offices in the new city, until their respective terms of office expire, and shall\nconstitute a combined legislative body of the new city.\n(2) At the expiration of the terms of office of the combined legislative body members,\nwhich in no case shall be greater than two (2) years, an election shall be held to\nelect the correct member of legislative body members as required by the\norganizational structure of the city pursua nt to KRS 83A.030. The election shall be\ngoverned by the general election laws and shall be held at the same time as other\ncity elections.\n(3) If any member of the combined legislative body resigns his office prior to the\nexpiration of the term of the offi ce, the resignation shall be subject to one (1) of the\nfollowing provisions:\n(a) If after the resignation, the total number of combined legislative body\nmembers is greater than will be required by the organizational structure for the\nlegislative body of th e newly merged city, the vacancy shall not be filled and\nthe provisions of KRS 83A.040 shall not apply; or\n(b) If after the resignation, the total number of combined legislative body\nmembers is less than will be required by the organizational structure for  the\nlegislative body of the newly merged city, the vacancy shall be filled as\nprovided by KRS 83A.040.","path":["KRS Chapter 81"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=24995","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:42Z","sha256":"48985d87f935b860ed31bd7e36e39f776106c1ab9c82c19b2fa1233a92175e4a","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-81.420","next":"us-ky/krs-81.440"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
