{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-83.520","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 83.520","heading":"Board of aldermen -- Powers -- Tax levy -- Other statutory provisions","body":"permissive.\nThe legislative body of a city of the first class shall have the power to exercise all of the\nrights, privileges, powers, franchises, including the power to levy all taxes, not in conflict\nwith the Constitution and so as to provide for the health, education, safety and welfare of\nthe inhabitants of the city, to the same extent and with the same force and effect as if the\nGeneral Assembly had granted and delegated to the le gislative body of the city all of the\nauthority and powers that are within its powers to grant to a municipal corporation as if\nexpressly enumerated herein. Nothing therein contained to the contrary, the provisions of\nKRS Chapters 65, 66, 76, 77, 79, 80, 9 1, 95, 96, 97, 98, 99, 103, 104, 106, 107, 108 and\n109 shall be considered permissive rather than mandatory and the powers, rights and\nduties therein delineated may be modified or delegated by the legislative body to different\ndepartments and agencies of c ity government and any restrictions therein set forth shall\nnot be considered abridging in any manner the complete grant of home rule set forth in\nthis grant of power except no right heretofore vested by operation of statute shall in any\nway be affected.","path":["KRS Chapter 83"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=25144","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:44Z","sha256":"b157c48a597ae7f77149ae2591e3c2d31ee42345b75386ce1a2e2b57604ec974","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-83.510","next":"us-ky/krs-83.530"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
