{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-90.180","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 90.180","heading":"Appointments to positions in classified service -- Probationary","body":"appointments.\n(1) All appointments to positions subject to the provisions of KRS 90.110 to 90.230\nshall be made solely on the basis of merit and fitness, to be determined by\ncompetitive ex aminations, except in the case of emergency appointments which\nmay be made only in accordance with the definition given in KRS 90.110; provided\nthat all original appointments, except emergency appointments as defined in KRS\n90.110, shall be probationary appointments for a period of not less than six (6), nor\nmore than twelve (12), months, after which probationary period regular\nappointments shall be given to all probationary employees who are deemed to be\nsatisfactory by the respective appointing authority.\n(2) Except in the case of emergency appointments as defined in KRS 90.110, all\nappointments to positions subject to the provisions of KRS 90.110 to 90.230 shall\nbe made by appointing authorities only from an eligible list certified by the\npersonnel direct or as qualified and eligible for appointment from an appropriate\neligible list as defined in KRS 90.110; provided however, that all employees\nholding positions subject to the provisions of KRS 90.110 to 90.230 on the effective\ndate thereof who were holding  positions in classified service under provision of\nprevious acts, shall be considered as having satisfied hereunder all of the\nqualifications for obtaining and holding such appointments as they then had, and\nfurther provided that all employees holding pos itions subject to the provisions of\nKRS 90.110 to 90.230, on the effective date thereof, and who were not holding\npositions in classified service under provisions of previous acts, shall be considered\nas having satisfied hereunder all of the qualifications  for obtaining and holding\noriginal appointments under KRS 90.110 to 90.230, and shall be considered as\nhaving been given probationary appointments, as defined in KRS 90.110, as of the\neffective date thereof.","path":["KRS Chapter 90"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=25431","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:47Z","sha256":"f8bd4b89b903b2619d760586c6a17d7f813f409d49cca1e51bb62e2b73c36e2d","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-90.170","next":"us-ky/krs-90.190"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
