{"data":{"id":"us-ky/krs-95.955","jurisdiction":"us-ky","citation":"KRS 95.955","heading":"Training requirements -- Effect of failure to complete.","body":"(1) All police officers and auxiliary police officers originally appointed or employed by\na city, urban-county, or charter county government after July 14, 1992, shall, within\none (1) year of their appointment or employment, successfully complete a basic\ntraining course as established by KRS 15.440 at a school certified or recognized by\nthe Kentucky Law Enforcement Council.\n(2) All police officers and auxiliary police officers specified in subsection (1) of this\nsection shall, upon completion of the basic train ing required in the same section,\nsuccessfully complete forty (40) hours of annual in -service training as established\nby KRS 15.440(1)(e) at a school certified or recognized by the Kentucky Law\nEnforcement Council.\n(3) All police officers and auxiliary pol ice officers appointed or employed before July\n14, 1992, shall successfully complete forty (40) hours of annual in -service training\nas established by KRS 15.440(1)(e) at a school certified or recognized by the\nKentucky Law Enforcement Council.\n(4) In the event of extenuating circumstances beyond the control of the officer such as\ninjury, illness, or personal tragedy which prevents the officer from completing the\nbasic or in-service training within the time specified in subsections (1) to (3) of this\nsection, the officer shall complete the training within one hundred eighty (180) days\nafter return to duty. Any police officer or auxiliary police officer who fails to\nsuccessfully complete the basic or in -service training within the specified time\nperiod shall n ot be authorized thereafter to carry deadly weapons or make arrests\nand may be dismissed from employment as a police officer or from membership on\nthe auxiliary police force.","path":["KRS Chapter 95"],"source_url":"https://apps.legislature.ky.gov/law/statutes/statute.aspx?id=45302","current_through":"Includes enactments through the 2026 Regular Session","vintage":"09/05/2026","retrieved_at":"2026-09-05T20:49:56Z","sha256":"4bd00754690e1aabb3bafd9468b40bdf3123c0746205ef5cbe96ff00a715d016","source_id":"us-ky","stale":false,"prev":"us-ky/krs-95.951","next":"us-ky/krs-95.960"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
